All but the very simplest Asian weddings have many moving parts contained within them and trying to do it all yourself, even with the help of family and friends, can be a big mistake. There are so many different things to consider and take into account when planning Asian wedding decor, so these days the answer is to hire an Asian wedding planner. Hiring a wedding planner will ensure that you don’t make mistakes, and there are many that can easily occur if you don’t check every last detail. A wedding planner will not only ensure that your wedding day goes smoothly but will also see to it that you get the best value for money from your various suppliers.
He or she will be able to coordinate everything and research different suppliers for each part of the wedding day. It is important to book suppliers in plenty of time for your day because if you are getting married in the peak season for Asian weddings, which is July and August, venues and suppliers can get booked up months in advance. This can lead you to book in a panic, and this is another area where things can go very badly wrong.
Another mistake to avoid is underestimating your guest numbers. At Kenza Creations we have seen situations where couples book their dream wedding venue and pay a deposit, only to realise later on that their guest list exceeds the capacity at the venue. The first step is to make certain that both the bride’s family and the grooms have an accurate idea of guest numbers and then make sure that it is not exceeded. Don’t forget things like leaving enough space for a dance floor alongside the guests if that is a requirement. Are you allowed to use outside caterers or does the venue insist that you use theirs? These are all things that need to be considered before you rush off and book a venue.
Don’t forget about booking photographers. It is all too easy to let uncle Mohindra take the wedding photos because he’s “quite good with a camera”. You need professional photographers and ideally, you need two of them. Why? Because one photographer can only be in one place at a time and look in one direction. So if a photographer is taking formal pictures for your album, he cannot be roaming the venue taking candid shots of all the other things going on. With two photographers working together they can be in two places at once and capture many more shots that would otherwise be missed.
Perhaps one of the most common mistakes that we see Asian couples making is going for the “best deal”. This can be a serious mistake. Of course, the cost is important, but this is your big day and you are only going to have it once. You need to select the best for your day and that may not always be the cheapest. In fact, it is more the other way around: the cheapest is not always likely to be the best. That may not always be true, but it does need careful consideration.
