One of the most critical pieces of your wedding décor – or for that matter any other celebration that involves dining, such as a 21st birthday, 40th wedding anniversary, or retirement dinner – are the centrepieces for your tables. You can keep it fairly simple or you can really splash out and go for something that will make your guests gasp with amazement. Remember that flowers can be quite expensive, so you need to consider your budget carefully.
It may seem like an obvious thing to say, but you are going to need one for each of your tables, and probably a more extravagant one for the bride and groom. However, if you are having long banquet-style tables you will need a few centrepieces for each one mounted at intervals along the tables. You’ll also need one each for side tables such as your dessert table, welcome table, and so on.
If you are looking to save some money on centrepieces you should look for flowers that are in season. If you don’t know anything about flowers you can ask your florist about flowers that are in season and grown locally: flowers that are not in season are obviously going to have to be flown in from abroad so it is only to be expected that they will be expensive. Another way to save a bob or two is to forget the flowers and use greenery – leaves and so on.
You also need to keep your floral arrangements in line with the overall wedding décor so that the centrepieces complement the general style and colour scheme. If you have some photos of centrepieces that you have been browsing, you can take them to your florist for some advice.
Another important factor in wedding centrepiece design is the height. Arrangements that are very tall may look dazzling but can also interfere with the guests’ views and can prevent them from talking to people across the table. Shorter arrangements are best for small tables.
