Getting married is not something that most people do in a hurry. All right, there are sometimes occasions where a couple meet, click, and get married all in the space of six weeks, but that is the exception rather than the rule. In most cases, couples who are planning to get married go for the long haul. Planning a wedding can often take 18 months or even more.
Apart from the actual cost of a wedding, there are so many things to take into consideration. For instance, you may decide that you want your wedding to be at a particular venue. Nothing wrong with that, except that the venue may be booked up for several months, or it may not be able to accommodate you on a particular date if you are getting married and it has to be on that day for some reason. So, when planning a wedding, the first thing to realise is that it may not all go as smoothly as you hoped. There has to be a certain amount of give and take.
You may have friends and family coming a long distance, and they have to stay in a hotel. So, you may have to arrange that. Then there are things such as travel to and from the venue, hiring a wedding car, booking the honeymoon, sending out invitations, possibly a limit on the amount of guests you can either accommodate, or afford to cater for, arranging the catering, buying the bridal gown – it goes on and on and on. Then there is the stag party and the hen night, or if you are Indian the Mendhi.
The Mendhi Is A Big Do
The Mendhi alone is a big do, and you need a Mendhi stage for the bride, an artist to carry out the painting and decoration, flowers, food, music, and so on.
The wedding day itself is of course the culmination of all this, and you have to consider the wedding table décor and the wedding centrepieces. Just those two items can take weeks to decide what colours you want, the flowers, the way the tables are to be set out in the venue, who should sit where (Auntie Rose and Cousin George absolutely hate each other!).
