Planning your big day is a whirlwind of Pinterest boards and floral samples, but it is easy to get lost in the aesthetics and forget the logistics. At Kenza Creations, we have styled hundreds of venues across the UK, and we’ve noticed that the most beautiful celebrations aren’t just about the flowers; they are about the experience. Avoiding common pitfalls with your wedding decorations ensures that your venue doesn’t just look like a dream in photos, but feels like one for your guests too.

Here are five things we wish every couple knew before they started their styling journey.

1.     The Sightline Struggle

We all love the drama of a tall, lush centrepiece. However, one of the biggest mistakes is choosing an arrangement that sits exactly at eye level. If your guests have to crane their necks or move their chairs just to see the person sitting across from them, the conversation will stall. We recommend going very high with slender stands or keeping things low and lush to keep the chat flowing.

2.    Ignoring the Venue’s Natural Light

A mood board might look stunning in bright daylight, but how does it look at 8:00 PM? Many couples forget to ask how their decor will transition once the sun goes down. At Kenza Creations, we always suggest layering your lighting, such as using plenty of candles and warm uplighting, to ensure your hard work doesn’t disappear into the shadows when the party starts.

3.    Overcomplicating the Top Table

Your head table is the focal point of the room, but more isn’t always better. If there’s too much decoration at the head table, there won’t be enough space for the food. It’s best to keep it simple, but still have a dramatic background for you to take pictures.

4.    Forgetting the Guest Path

Your decorations need to direct your guests and not hinder their movement. Decorations like large floor lamps or large pillars decorated with flowers look beautiful, but if they obstruct the guests from reaching the bar or the dance floor, then they become an obstacle. We always tour the venue as guests.

5.    Playing it Too Safe with Colour

White-on-white is classic, but it can often look flat in professional photography. Adding even a subtle hint of texture or a secondary metallic tone can make your wedding decorations pop. It’s about creating depth so that your venue feels rich and lived-in.

At Kenza Creations, our goal is to help you navigate these choices with ease, ensuring your wedding is as functional as it is fashionable.
